Compression Socks:

  • Use knee hi's to slip compression socks on and keep your legs warm if bedridden

Dry Mouth Remedies:

  • Chew sugarless gum
  • Suck on mints or flavored hard candies
  • Take small sips of water at regular intervals
  • Avoid tobacco and alcohol

Vinegar Uses For Lowering Bacteria and Deodorizing:

  • Soak your night guard or dentures in vinegar water to clean calcium deposits off
  • Salt water and white vinegar on cuts and bruises Vinegar reduces blueness and speeds healing
  • Salt water and vinegar for gargling
  • Vinegar kills bacteria for a sore throat just mix
    1/4 cup honey
    1/4 cup vinegar
    Take 1 Tbs six times a day
  • To relieve a cough mix
    1/2 cup water
    1/2 cup vinegar
    1 Tsp cayenne pepper
    4 Tsp honey
    Take one tablespoon at bedtime and when cough acts up
  • Try two teaspoons of white vinegar in your humidifer to relieve sore throat
  • Hiccups are annoying try one teaspoon vinegar in 8 oz warm water and drink
  • Vinegar is great for heavy dandruff
  • Solution for Warts
    One part glycerin
    One part apple cider vinegar
    Mix into a lotion and apply daily and watch the results
  • A great poultice for Corn removal
    One piece of crumbled bread
    1/4 cup vinegar
    Soak bread in vinegar for 1 1/2 hours then apply to the corn and tape it in place overnight and peel it off. If it doesn't peel off try for several consecutive nights
  • For the milk farmers equipment use unperfumed dish detergent to clean equipment and rinse with vinegar all equipment associated with milking

Lemon and Lime Uses:

  • Squeeze the juice of a lemon, use the left over rind to rub on your teeth and gums
  • Sprinkle a lemon wedge with salt to stop onion or garlic breath
  • You can also suck on a clove or two. The clove gives a fresh scent and taste to your mouth. Your breath will smell sweet!
  • Lemon rind is also a good skin cleanser and softner, just rub the rind over desired areas and let stand for 5 minutes and rinse with tepid water
  • Squeeze 1 lemon into 8 oz of warm water first thing every morning and drink to keep liver nice and pliable
  • Cut a lime in half and rub it on your forehead and the throbbing will go away

Pain:

  • Arthritis and ache joints can be soothed with a ginger compress by grating some ginger root and boil until pulpy. Drain the water from the pulp and put between layers of gauze and place the compress on joints for three minutes (any longer could burn the skin) Reapply three times daily
  • Spray arthritis with WD-40 and rub in, kills insect stings too
  • Arthritis can also be handled by mixing
    2 cups Quaker Oats
    1 cup water in a bowl
    warm in microwave for 1 minute
    cool slightly and apply mixture to your hands for relief
  • Arthritis can be relieved by drinking a glass of water containing two Teaspoons apple cider vinegar for a good three weeks for results
  • For Migraines dilute a few drops of peppermint oil with olive oil and rub the mixture onto your temples. It can keep the migraine from progressing and make you feel more alert
  • Try drinking two glasses of Gatorade for a headache
  • For Neck pain make a moist heat wrap with rice. Fill a sock with dry uncooked rice stopping two inches from the top. Close tightly with a string then microwave for two minutes and lay this over your neck and reheat when it cools
  • Tooth ache the old-timers used to grind up approximately 100 cloves and then literally cook them in just a tiny bit of water (less than 1⁄4 cup) until they made a nice syrup...then they would soak a cloth and put it in their mouth and believe it or not, the pain lessens greatly! of course, you should also see a dentist. But this will help until you can get there

Skin Conditions:

  • Bug bites can be treated by mixing a teaspoon of baking soda with enough water to make a thick paste. Apply to bites and let dry
  • To relieve itching use a cotton ball dabbed in vinegar for bug bites
  • Bee stings - meat tenderize
  • Chigger bite - Preparation H
  • A treatment for Poison Ivy, is to use equal amounts of apple cider vinegar and water. Gently dab the mixture onto the affected skin areas, without rubbing and allow to dry. Apply as needed for quick relief
  • A broken blister can be disinfected by dabbing on a few drops of Listerine
  • A great milk bath for dry skin can be made by running lukewarm water into the tub and adding one packet of dry powdered milk. Remember water should not be to hot or it will dry your skin more
  • By grating a raw potato (has a chemical that lightens skin tones) and wrapping the shavings in two pieces of cheesecloth, will help relieve dark circles by placing the packets under your eyes for 20 minutes
  • A wart should disappear in a month or so if you cover the growth with duct or masking tape changing it when it gets icky
  • You can use apple cider vinegar, right from the bottle, to the skin area where shingles is located. Apply four times during the day and three times during the night if awake. The burning and itching feeling on the skin should leave within a few minutes after the vinegar is applied. Many people swear by this treatment declaring that shingles heals quicker from the regular use of apple cider vinegar
  • Skin blemishes can can be dabbed with honey, a band-aid placed over it overnight to speed healing. Honey kills the bacteria

Cold Related Symptoms:

  • Post nasal drip-mix together a tablespoon each of honey and lemon juice and microwave for 20 seconds until warm (not hot) and swallow a teaspoon at a time
  • For a sore throat you can take a piece of ginger root the size of your pinkie and cut it in half. Boil halves in four to eight cups of water (depending on how strong you want it) with three cinnamon sticks for 20 minutes, remove the ginger and cinnamon add honey to taste and sip slowly
  • Nose irrigation for sinusitis can be made with a saline solution by boiling one cup of water with one teaspoon table salt (don't overdo the salt or it will dry your nasal membranes) and cool to room temperature. Place the solution in a clean bottle with a dropper, hang your head over the side of a bed and insert a few drops into your nostrils and repeat as needed. Be sure to blow your nose and feel the results
  • Nose irrigation for sinusitis can also be made from 25 drops of liquid iodine forte to a half cup of water placed in a clean bottle with a dropper. Insert a few drops into your nostrils and repeat as needed and be sure to blow your nose and feel the results
  • To clear up a stuffed nose try chewing a couple of strong Altoid Peppermints
  • You can make an easy cough remedy mixture, by slowly boiling one lemon for approximately 15 minutes. This will soften the lemon and the rind ,so that it will be juicier. Then cut the lemon in two parts and extract the juice with a lemon squeezer. Put the juice into an 8 ounce glass. Add two tablespoonfuls of glycerine. Stir the lemon juice and glycerine mixture well, then fill the glass with honey. Note that the glycerine can be purchased from your local pharmacy

Miscellaneous:

  • Swimmers ear can be helped by mixing the juice from one half clove of garlic, pressed (no pieces) with a few drops of mullein leaf (can be found at natural food stores) and four tablespoons of warm (not hot) olive oil. Use a dropper to put mixture into ear as needed
  • For insomnia place drops of lavender oil on your pillow which is claming and smells nice
  • You can make your very own canker sore treatment by mixing one teaspoon of baking soda with a half cup of warm water. Use mixture as a mouth rinse several times a day, concentrating after meals and before bedtime. You should feel some relief within 24 hours and the canker sores will usually clear up completely within approximately three days
  • Pam cooking spray will dry finger nail polish
  • Elmer's Glue - paint on your face, allow it to dry, peel off and see the dead skin and blackheads if any
  • Sunburn - empty a large jar of Nestea into your bath water for soothing relief
  • Apply vinegar to a sunburn to help sooth it
  • For a minor burn make a salve with Colgate or Crest toothpaste
  • Burn your tongue? Put sugar on it!
  • Eye puffiness under the eyes can be eliminated by dabbing Preparation H carefully rubbed into the skin, avoiding the eyes. Helps to relieve swelling
  • For removal of inflammation from eyes
    Boil together for 3 minutes
    1 teaspoon boric acid
    1 pint of water
    Apply with a clean soft cloth

  • Paper cut - crazy glue or chap stick (glue is used instead of sutures at most hospitals)
  • Stinky feet - Jello
  • Athletes feet - cornstarch to keep feet dry
  • Fungus on toenails or fingernails - Vicks vapor rub
  • Soak your feet in Listerine to get rid of fungus
  • My great grandmother used to soak her feet in bleach water
  • For achy muscles mix
    1 Tbs horseradish
    1/2 cup olive oil
    Let mixture sit for 30 minutes than apply it as a massage oil
  • Use a tomato paste compress over a boil, the acids from the tomatoes sooth the pain and bring the boil to a head
  • Use Elmer's glue on a splinter, let it dry and peel the dried glue off the skin and the splinter should be stuck to the glue
  • Scotch tape also works well on splinters
  • If Elmer's glue or scotch tape don't work on splinters you can always depend on tweezers or a needle that have be disinfected
