Window Blinds:

  • To freshen the color of window blinds brush with linseed oil
  • White window shades may be cleaned with magnesia. Spread a sheet on the floor, unroll the shade and with a soft cloth, scrub the shade with magnesia and water. After treating one side, turn the shade over and clean it in the same way. This method removes the dirt very satisfactorily and renews the shade at a cost of about ten cents
  • A quick and presentable repair may be effective on a torn cotton blind in the following manner; Dip a piece of the same material into hot starch, place it neatly on top of the tear, and press with a hot iron

Crafts:

  • Kool Aid can be used as a dye in paint also Kool Aid in Dannon plain yogurt as a finger paint, your kids will love it and it won't hurt them if they eat it
  • Body paint - Crisco mixed with food coloring.  Heat the Crisco in the microwave, pour in to an empty film container and mix with the food color of your choice
  • Tie Dye T-shirt - mix a solution of Kool Aid in a container, tie a rubber band around a section of the T-shirt and soak
  • Preserving a newspaper clipping - large bottle of club soda and cup of milk of magnesia, soak for 20 min. and let dry, will last for many years
  • Take a chicken bone and soak it in a glass of vinegar for three days and it will bend like rubber

Miscellaneous:

  • Scratches on CD's can be removed with Peanut Butter and wiped off with a coffee filter
  • Peanut butter will remove ink from the face of dolls
  • Remove labels off glassware etc. rub with Peanut butter
  • Eyeglass screws can get a drop of clear nail polish or glue before tightening
  • Pam no-stick cooking spray is great for sticking bicycle chains
  • Pam will also remove paint, and grease from your hands
  • When the doll clothes are hard to put on, sprinkle with corn starch and watch them slide on
  • A Slinky will hold toast and CD's
  • To keep goggles and glasses from fogging, coat with Colgate toothpaste
  • Wine stains, pour Morton salt on stain and watch it absorb into the salt
  • Colgate tooth paste is also good for stains on clothes
  • Try Karo Syrup on Grass stains
  • Grease Stains on driveways can be removed with Coca Cola overnight
  • Coca Cola is also good for corrosion from car batteries or other rust stains
  • To remove a wax stain take a paper towel and iron it over the stain and it will absorb into the towel
  • To remove baked on food follow these directions
    1. Fill container with water, get a Bounce paper softener and the static from the Bounce towel will cause the baked on food to adhere to it Soak overnight
    2. Use 2 Efferdent tablets, soak overnight
  • Extract the juice from the lemon. Mix with oil and water. Apply a thin coat to the wood
  • Crayon on the wall try brushing with Colgate toothpaste
  • Keep fresh flowers longer Add a little Clorox, or 2 Bayer  aspirin, or just use 7-up instead of water
  • Stamp a few moth balls into the round near flower beds to keep dogs and cats away. Great for snakes too
  • A spray of formula 409 drops insects to the ground (bees, wasps, hornets etc:) Carburetor cleaner has the same effect
  • Ballpoint ink marks can be removed with rubbing alcohol
