Kitchen and Bathrooms:
- Keep a small sponge under the sinks to give them and the counter a quick
wipe
- Use old tooth brushes for cleaning around toilet seats, floors, corners
and crevices, also good for wax dusting wood carvings
- Mix tooth paste and baking soda into a paste and place where grout has
fallen out of tiled walls
- To unclog a drain drop three alka seltzer tablets down followed by a cup of vinegar and wait a few minutes then run hot water down the drain
- Dishes and ornaments are usually cleaned by washing in hot water and soap.
They should not be quickly heated or cooled, for sudden changes of temperature
are likely to crack china
- Soapy film on glassware in the diswasher can come clean by placing a cup of vinegar on the bottom rack and run for five minutes then run a full cycle
- A good way to whiten bread or meat boards which have become discolored
is to rub them with lemon rinds turned inside out. Then wash with clean
warm water. They will be a beautiful white when dry
- Never use bleach or abrasives on Ceramic, Porcelain tile, Granite, Marble or Laminates, they break down grout lines and sealers
- Ceramic or porcelain tile can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild dish liquid
- For laminates clean with baking soda and water paste on stains for 10 to 15 minutes and wipe up with a wet cloth
- Butcher block surfaces should be preserved with a professional food block oil every four to eight weeks. Use sandpaper or fine steel wool on stains and clean with mild soap and water
- Never use oil on Granite it is bad for this type of stone, try K2-R for oil stains and clean with liquid soap and water
- Marble is a polished surface and stains can be cleaned by buffing with auto body sandpaper in progressively finer abrasives, polishing until shiny and again clean with mild soap and water
- When cleaning steel knives add
a little bicarbonate soda to the cleaning powder. This helps to remove
stains
- Fill discarded air wick bottle with ammonia and use for an oven cleaner.
Raise wick and place in oven overnight and oven will clean easily
- Dishes that have become brown from baking may have that brown stain
removed by soaking in strong borax and water
- If spoons or chopping bowls splinter or become rough, smooth them down
with sandpaper, rubbing with the grain
- A few drops of olive oil added to hard water will make the soap lather
better and keep the skin from getting rough
- Save pieces of soap, tie them tightly in a piece of soft flannel, and dip
in boiling water until soft. Place in cold water until firm.
Remove the flannel and a good ball of soap is ready for use
- When dripping water causes yellow stains in your porcelain sinks, moisten
pulverized chalk with ammonia and apply with a stiff brush
- To save the inside of earthenware teapots, pie dishes and pudding bowl from
becoming lined with tiny cracks, put them when new into a pan of cold water,
then bring the water slowly to a boil and let it boil for a minute or two
- White enamelware may be cleaned of stains by making a strong solution of
baking soda and rain water. Put the utensils in it and boil them hard;
they will be as white as snow
- Pots and pans that are stained can be cleaned with white vinegar, let soak for thirty or so minutes then rinse in hot soapy water
- Try ketchup to clean copper pots and pans and you'll be surprised
- Grime and grease on a glass oven door can be removed with baking soda on a damp cloth
- Window cleaner is great for cleaning appliances, then polish with furniture polish
- Using swimming pool chlorine in a spray bottle to spray showers down will
keep them bright and clean
- To avoid steaming up the entire bathroom, run cool water in the tub first,
then add hot water
- Rust Remover
1 lime
Salt
Sprinkle a little salt on the rust. Squeeze a lime over the salt until it
is well soaked. Let the mixture set for two to three hours. Use the leftover
rind to scrub the residue
- Furniture Polish
1 lemon
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 teaspoon water
Extract the juice from the lemon. Mix with oil and water. Apply a thin coat
to the wood surface and let set for five minutes. Use a soft cloth to buff
to a deep shine
- Kool aid to clean dishwasher pipes. Just put in the detergent section and run a cycle, it will also clean a toilet
