Fleas

• To keep kitty litter fresh smelling, mix baby powder in the the litter

• For hair balls try a commercial hairball lubricant or a tsp. of petroleum jelly on there nose and they will lick off the jelly. Remember to brush your pet

• Cats are one of the few animals that have a very slow detoxification mechanism and lack the ability to eliminate compounds you should never use essential oils on them. One thing that does work well is generated colloidal silver, it is non toxic and can be put in their eyes to clear up infections and poured into cuts. Colloidal silver kills just about any organism it comes in contact with

• Dry itchy skin can be helped by giving your pet Cod Liver Oil and Garlic soft jell capsules. The Garlic is also good for repelling pests. Remember once a day is good enough they will develop bad breath but have a nice shiny healthy coat. To much Cod Liver Oil can give them Diarrhea.

• Big dogs like Great Dane's need to have there food and water off the floor, preferably raised up on a step stool for easier access.

• For hot spots dissolve
  2 adult aspirins in
  1 Tbs. rubbing alcohol
  Steep 1 tea bag in
  1 cup warm water and discard tea bag
  Stir together aspirin mixture and tea, allow to cool. Shave hair around hot spot and blot prepared mixture over spot with a cotton ball and follow with over the counter cortisone spray or cream

• When trimming nails to short, stop the bleeding by pressing the nail in styptic powder or flour, then tap the powder in

• Reduce anal sac problems by not feeding your pet table scrapes. The fatty foods soften the stool, making the fluid more likely to build up

• Remove burrs from your pet's coat as soon as possible. Allowing their fur to get wet makes it worse to remove. Use your fingers or tweezers or soak the area in vegetable oil to help slide the burr out

• Dogs who have seizures don't swallow there tongues so don't put your hand in their mouth. Move furniture out of the way and try to keep the area dark as possible while gently talking and stroking may help to shorten the length of the seizure. If a seizure last more than ten minutes take your pet to the vet immediately

Ear Mites:

• Ear Mites: Take a few drops of wesson corn oil and massage it in then clean with a clean cotton ball. The oil will smother the mites, repeat daily for three days

• Ear Mites: You can temporarily treat the ear mites by soaking a cotton ball with mineral oil and swabbing the ear canal then take your pet to the vet

Miscellaneous:

• Earwax buildup can become smelly, offensive and needs to be removed and the ear deodorized
  Dilute 3 drops of lavender into
  One teaspoon of witch hazel
  Insert at least 4 drops into each ear
  Gently message the whole ear
  Repeat this procedure daily to soften the wax then remove it with cotton wool

• Fever: A normal temperature of cats and dogs range from 100.5 to 102.5 anything above that can be soothed away with a cool compress on their belly or a 10 minute cool bath. Make sure they are drinking enough water and consult your vet a fever can mean serious illness and or infection

• For an injured dog (cut or grazed) bathe the area in a water solution of thyme or lavender oil Use 6 drops of either oil to
  1/2 gallon of water
  Keep bathing the wound until healed

• To draw toxins from an infected wound on a pet use 1 cabbage leaf, iron it, and wrap it around the wound. Secure it firmly and change the leaf 4-6 times per day or until all the toxins have been drawn out. Then wash thoroughly in a solution of 4 drops of lavender oil to 5 ounces of warm water

• Severe Bleeding: Place gauze over the wound and apply direct pressure using your hands for 5 minutes, recheck and continue applying pressure until bleeding stops or you've reached the vet.

• If your pet gets skunk spray and his eyes are watering, use an eye wash to flush out any irritating spray and shampoo with a mixture of 1 quart 3% hydrogen Peroxide to 1⁄4 cup baking soda and 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap followed with a washing of regular pet shampoo

• If your animal gets wet outside wipe the down with a bounce or dryer sheet and they will smell fresh

• Urinary Infections can be handled by giving your pet a chewable vitamin C tablet a day that will reduce the acidity to prevent further infection

• Pet urine on carpet can be blotted with a paper towels then use warm soapy water and a clean cloth to blot the area and rinse with clean water. Blot until dry and wait 24 hours and sprinkle entire carpet with baking soda or rug deodorizer and vacuum after a few hours

• Carpet stains from animal's need to be blotted or picked up and rinsed with lukewarm water then apply a mixture of equal parts vinegar and cool water. Blot, rinse and let dry

• Pepto Bismol is good for dogs only to relieve vomiting or stomach gas or diarrhea

• Vomiting: Stop feeding your pet for 24 hours only providing water. Afterwards, slowly introduce mild foods back into the diet over a 3 day period to include boiled hamburger, chicken and cooked rice and/or cottage cheese. If the vomiting continues after the first 24 hours or if there is bloating consult your vet

• Pepto Bismol can relieve vomiting or stomach gas or diarrhea 1 tsp per 20 #

• Choking: Open your pets mouth to see if you can see the object and remove it, if you can’t, take your pet to the vet immediately. If your pet stops breathing try the Heimlich method by holding your pet against you and clasp your hand around his upper abdomen or place your pet on their side on the floor and put one of your hands on top of the other so that the bottom hand is just below the rib cage and push or lift upward to dislodge the object

• Car sickness can be best handled on an empty stomach so pick up there food 6-8 hours before travel. Remember to crack a window for fresh air and try to let your pet sit in the front seat and this may help with car sickness

• For a healthy pet try essential oils, you can often use an oil you already have around the house

• When a cat or dog has anemia try feeding them iron and B vitamins or a serving of liver once a day

  3 oz for medium dogs
  4 oz for large dogs

• When an animal is in Heat you can rub the fur on the tail of a female with Vicks VapoRub ointment and just above the nose on males. Remember cats can smell a female in heat a mile away while a dog's range is about three miles

• A 20 minute walk several times a day can help reduce arthritis in your pet while keeping them at a good weight. For comfort, apply moist heat for 20 minutes twice a day

• Remember animals can have Asthma just like an adult. Try and keep your pet at a good weight and use a humidifier because dry air irritates the airway and use dust free kitty litter for cats

• Benedryl is good for treating allergies, itching or reaction to insect stings etc:

• Bad teeth or plaque is a sign of bad breath or foul odor coming from your pets mouth. Vets can clean there teeth but you can brush the teeth or give them a rope to play with and remember no table scraps or canned food. Also, try to feed them raw carrots or raw turkey neck bones

• Never give animals Acetaminophen, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Nuprine or Aieve
